Handmade Mother's Day Card
Sunday, May 11, 2014
I have not made a card in awhile - but since Mother's Day is tomorrow I decided that I should put my card making supplies to use! I knew I wanted to use my new watercolor paints - and that I wanted it to be floral (because my Mom loves flowers!). I rummaged through my stamp collection and found this one by Simon Says Stamp called Best Mom Ever - it was perfect! I started with a panel of 4 1/4 by 5 1/2 120 pound watercolor paper. I stamped both the large and small roses diagonally across the page (using versafine black ink) - I like the way the design turned out! Next I broke out my watercolor paints - I used Alizerin Crimson by Winsor & Newton on the roses and then Sap Green also by Winsor & Newton on the dot accents (from the Best Mom Ever stamp set). The little looped lines came from another Simon Says Stamp set called Always and Forever. I also used the Wink of Stella Glitter Clear Brush Tip Marker to add some sparkle to the smaller roses, the dots and the looped lines. I stamped the Happy Mother's Day sentiment (from the Best Mom Ever Stamp set) on scrap piece of watercolor paper using Versafine black ink and then painted it with the Alizerin Crimson. I cut it into a banner shape and adhered it to the card front using some dimensional foam squares. I ended up mounting the card front to a card base made from watercolor paper. Using watercolor paper for the card just brought everything together for me - a nice clean finished look. I love the way this card turned out! It was fun to make - and I loved using the watercolor paints too. Happy Mother's Day to all you Mom's out there!
